Care and Washing of Common Clothes: Summer Women's Clothing Edition
2026-04-19
Summer clothes are lightweight, close-fitting, and prone to sweating. With just a little carelessness in washing and maintenance, they can easily deform, fade, or lose elasticity. Below are simple and practical care tips for several types of summer women's clothing.
1. Cotton T-shirts and Dresses
Cotton clothing absorbs sweat and breathes well, making it a summer staple, but it tends to fade and loosen easily.
Washing: Turn inside out to protect prints from scratching. Hand wash in cold or lukewarm water for best results. If using a machine, select the "gentle/delicate" cycle. Wash dark and light colors separately to prevent bleeding.
Drying: Do not wring too hard. Gently squeeze out water, then lay flat or hang upside down to dry. Avoid direct sunlight, which causes fading and stiffening.
Care: Fold promptly after drying. Do not hang for long periods, as this can stretch out the neckline.
2. Chiffon and Silk
Chiffon is flowy, silk is luxurious, but both are delicate.
Washing: Be sure to hand wash, or machine wash in a laundry bag using the "silk/wool" cycle. Use a neutral detergent or a specialty silk/wool wash. Water temperature should not exceed 30°C (86°F). Do not use alkaline soap or enzyme-containing laundry powder on silk.
Drying: Never wring! Absorb excess water with a large towel, then lay flat to dry in a cool, shaded area. Silk should not be exposed to sunlight, as it will yellow and become brittle.
Care: Silk is damaged by sweat, so it's best to wash it the same day it's worn. Store wrapped in cotton cloth, away from rough or sharp objects.
3. Lace and Mesh Tops
Lace is delicate but prone to snagging and deforming.
Washing: Place in a fine-mesh laundry bag, then hand wash or machine wash on a "gentle" cycle. Do not scrub vigorously, and especially avoid washing together with items that have zippers or buttons.
Drying: Lay flat to dry. Do not hang, as the weight of water will stretch and distort the lace.
Care: When storing, fold separately or wrap in thin paper to prevent snagging on decorative elements from other clothes.
4. Linen Shirts and Pants
Linen is cool and non-clinging, but wrinkles very easily.
Washing: Hand wash in cold water or machine wash on a "linen/gentle" cycle. Linen has a high shrinkage rate, so high-temperature washing is not recommended.
Drying: While still half-damp, smooth out wrinkles, then lay flat or hang to dry. Slight wrinkling after drying is a natural characteristic of linen—don't aim for perfect smoothness.
Care: Use a steam iron or garment steamer to lightly remove wrinkles; avoid high-temperature dry ironing. Hang when not in use to reduce creasing.
Summer clothes are changed frequently. Proper washing and care not only make your clothes last longer but also keep you feeling fresh and confident every day. Develop the habits of washing inside out, laying flat to dry, and storing by fabric type—beauty and comfort will easily follow.
